Scummvm data files error2/4/2024 ![]() The nature of SCUMM emerged from the background of most of the early programmers at LucasArts, including Wilmunder, who had been programmers for minicomputers and Unix workstations. This is a token language that provided groundbreaking coding techniques. UnXman) in 1987, : 34:21 with later versions enhanced by Aric Wilmunder (a.k.a., the SCUMM Lord) and Brad P. ![]() The original version was coded by Ron Gilbert (with some initial help by Chip Morningstar a.k.a. Several SCUMM games have been officially and unofficially ported to other systems through use of the open-source ScummVM software. SCUMM has been released on these platforms: 3DO, Amiga, Apple II, Atari ST, CDTV, Commodore 64, Fujitsu FM Towns & Marty, Apple Macintosh, Nintendo Entertainment System, DOS, Microsoft Windows, Sega CD (Mega-CD), and TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine. SCUMM is also a host for embedded game engines such as the Interactive MUsic Streaming Engine ( iMUSE), the INteractive Streaming ANimation Engine ( INSANE), CYST (in-game animation engine), FLEM (places and names object inside a room), and MMUCAS. This also allowed the game's script and data files to be cross-platform, i.e., re-used across various platforms. It falls somewhere between a game engine and a programming language, allowing designers to create locations, items and dialogue sequences without writing code in the language in which the game source code ends up. It was subsequently used as the engine for later LucasArts adventure games and Humongous Entertainment games. Here is an example of a bug filed for Riven.Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion ( SCUMM) is a video game engine developed at Lucasfilm Games, later renamed LucasArts, to ease development on their graphic adventure game Maniac Mansion (1987). If you encounter new bugs and want to help them get fixed, you can file them in the ScummVM bug tracker. You can find the list of remaining To-dos/Known Issues for Riven support on the ScummVM wiki. However, your save files should be portable between the same version of ScummVM running on different host platforms! So if you decide to try upgrading ScummVM later, make a backup of your current ScummVM version and your save files first, just in case. Also, until it becomes officially supported, there is no guarantee that future versions of ScummVM will be compatible with the current version's save files. I don't think normal Riven saves are compatible with ScummVM. ![]() The workaround is to light the first light, then after being teleported, return to the end of the tunnel but stop one frame short of the end, then turn around and complete the puzzle. You are teleported back outside, this is also present when playing the game in ScummVM. Looking away and then looking back fixes the issue (or just don't skip it in the first place.)Īlso, there is a gameplay bug in the Steam version when in the tunnels to the moiety cave, It only crashed once (as I recall this was an improvement over the last time I tried to play using Windows 7, even with compatibility mode enabled.) Right now the only major issue I noticed was that if you skip a video, the video appears to pause instead of skipping. I also checked it on Windows, but not Linux. I played all the way through Riven with ScummVM on my Mac to test it. Remember, this is still under development so I recommend saving frequently! Check out the manual for quick-save hotkeys. ![]()
